Amaechi's Enemies, Not My Enemies ––Rivers CP Mbu Boasts

The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Joseph Mbu, on Thursday appeared before the National Human Rights Commission to answer to allegations of partisanship levelled against him by Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

He met with the Commission's panel of inquiry behind closed doors in Abuja but when he came he encountered some journalists outside and here is what the Police Commissioner told them:

“I think the issues in Rivers State are overblown. We are working with the governor amicably, but one thing is clear – the enemies of the governor are not my enemies.
“I am a police officer, an umpire and my job is to make sure that I protect everybody who is in Rivers State. That is my professional calling and I stand by it.”
Governor Amaechi is however accusing Mbu of various forms of human rights abuses and insubordination.

PDP Begs Amaechi, Others: We Can Settle and Work Together

The Peoples Democratic Party is not giving up yet, despite loosing five of its governors to the APC in one say in an historic political merger. The party says Governor Rotimi Amaechi, who it frustrated with suspension and other forms of intimidation, is not gone yet. Now they want Amaechi and others back.

Less than 24hours after PDP chairman, Bamanga Tukur told journalists at the National Assembly, after meeting with PDP Senators, that the governors are not gone yet, the party has released a statement:

“The fact remains that our elected and appointed officers, including our governors share the same ideals and principles with the administrators of the party and remain unflinchingly committed to the visions of the founding fathers.
“The PDP is not only a political party but a belief which cannot be easily jettisoned. It is a belief in national interest; a belief in the unity of the country and in satisfying the interests of the common man," said PDP through its publicity secretary in a statement on Thursday.
But reacting to Tukur and his hurriedly written statement, the five governors who left PDP said:
"Instead of facing the reality he is talking about people not leaving. The movement of people away from the PDP is not under his control, what is under his control is the level of impunity and brigandage that is within the party. He has powers to do that within the PDP.

“He has no powers to determine whether people leave the PDP or not. He can control the machinery of the PDP, but he cannot control the conscience of the people.”

What Mandela Told Me About Power ––Obasanjo

Here is what Former President Olusegun Obasanjo said on Friday in his tribute to the icon, Nelson Mandela:
"Certain that his task was completed, Mandela modestly refused to seek re-election after his first term in office as his presidency elapsed. I still recall his pragmatic words when he said to me ‘Olu, show me a [reasonable] place in the world where a man of 80 years is running the affairs of his country'
"This, to me, reflects an unequaled sense of modesty for a man who spent 27 of the prime years of his life in prison for a just cause."

Pop star Justin Bieber lands into more trouble in Australia as he and his entourage were reportedly detained at the Brisbane, Australia airport yesterday, Dec. 5 while custom agents searched their luggage for drugs.

Sources say the suspect had an electronic device to smoke marijuana called a disposable vaporizer, which had residue in it. However, his attorney was at the court yesterday to pay a fine before he was allowed to go.

The site also claims Justin Bieber had once gotten into trouble with AFP in November when he swore at the security for checking his stuff, “Australian Federal Police said a 19-year-old man was detained back on Nov. 24 but was released after getting a stern warning for using ‘inappropriate language,” reported the gossip site. Close sources connected with the situation confessed that Justin was the one who swore at the officers.

Bieber’s bodyguard was arrested in November in Hawaii after allegedly attacking a photographer on the beach and has also been caught on video attacking a photographer in Sydney for taking pictures.
Wow, seems Bieber just can’t stay out of trouble whether in America or not.

RIP Madiba: Nelson Mandela Goes Home 1918 – 2013

Former South African president Nelson Mandela has passed at 95. He is famous for his diligent fight to end the racist policy of apartheid.
Madiba, as he is fondly called, has been facing a deteriorating health over the past few months and was hospitalized on June 8, 2013 for liver and kidney problems. Doctors further reported that he had a recurring lung infection and had been on life support.
President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma calls him, ‘one of the greatest men’ the world has ever seen and Prince Williams and wife, Kate Middleton say, Mandela is an “extraordinary and inspiring man”.
Mandela turned into an international icon after spending 27 years behind bars for conspiring to over throw South Africa’s government. He was released from prison in February 1990 and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.
He aided in orchestrating South Africa’s first multi-racial election in 1994 and became the country’s first ever black president under the ANC political party on May 10, 1994. He established the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, TRC in 1995 which investigated human rights violation under apartheid and he then introduced housing, education and economic development initiatives designed to improve the living standards of the country’s black population.
He also encouraged the enactment of a new democratic constitution and he resigned his post with the ANC in December 1997, transferring leadership of the party to his designated successor, Thabo Mbeki.
He divorced ex wife Winnie Madikizela Mandela in 1996 and married Graca Machel – the widow of Samora Machel, the former Mozambican president - in 1998.
He’s been idolized, immortalized and has been portrayed by several prominent actors including Morgan Freeman, Sidney Poitier, Terrence Howard, Dennis Haysbert, Danny Glover and most recently, Idris Elba. In 1992, he made a cameo as ateacher in Spike Lee’s flick, “Malcom X”.
In 2008 Mandela was feted with several celebrations in South Africa, Great Britain, and other countries in honour of his 90th birthday. On July 18 2009, He was honored with the ‘Mandela Day’, observed on Mandela’s birthday as respect to his impeccable legacy for promoting community service throughout the world.
Nelson Mandela Foundation and the 46664 initiative (the foundation’s HIV/AIDS global awareness and prevention campaign) are some of his representation and the United Nations declared his birthday would be observed annually as Nelson Mandela International Day.
May his soul rest in peace

Raypower FM presenters Mock ‘Iyanya On Live Programme

So, two nights ago, the much talked about corporate elite event went down successfully at the Eko hotel and suites. The performers for the night were Billy Ocean, Dru Hill, Joe, Maxi Priest, Shabbaranks, Awilologomba, Mafikizolo, Kool&Gang and Tevin Campbell and Nigerian talents like Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Iyanya, Praiz, Davido, Kcee, D’prince and Chidinma.
Well, all the guests left fulfilled, they enjoyed all the performances from both the foreign and local artistes, however Iyanya Mbuk failed to deliver! He did his best, but his best just wasn’t good enough for the night; his performance was quite disappointing.
While rating the performances of the event on yesterday morning’s Ultimate Show on Raypower FM, presenters Olaitan and Hollywood J had this to say about Iyanya: “Iyanya’s performance was really bad, he killed everyone’s spirit….like seriously, everyone was disappointed with his performance, the dude really needs to do more work if he wants to remain relevant.
At some point, people almost booed him off the stage, he realized this too and tried changing songs but still the performance was a No no…he should be creative with his songs….” they said.

Saidi Balogun refutes court action against ex-wife, Fathia Balogun

There were unconfirmed reports over the weekend that actor Saidi Balogun had dragged his ex- wife actress Fathia Balogun to court over the use of his surname, Balogun, insisting that she drops it. Saidi has reacted to the report. Find a statement he released after the cut...

I would be glad if my personal life can be kept out of the public eye. If a “news story” begins with the phrase “According to unconfirmed reports,” and the affected stakeholders did not confirm such reports, is the story really newsworthy?

Punch called me about an personal issue (about a previous marriage) that I have no knowledge of.

My response to them is the same response I have said times without number to all unconfirmed, untrue and other rubbish stories of the like: I, Saidi Balogun, am focusing on my work! I am married to my work and my work is all I know! When I told this to Punch, they at least printed what I said. But, they used a completely different headline that has no basis in fact, which they even admitted to themselves via their failed effort to provide evidence or confirmation of the rumor.

Abeg o, as Saidi Balogun, keep my personal life which you know nothing about out of the public eye and concentrate on the work I do that so many credible people respect me for. Thanks and God Bless all of my fans, I love you! - Saidi Balogun

Paul Walker’s Daughter, Meadow Takes To Facebook To Express Her Feelings Over Her Dad’s Death

Burna Boy was part of a gang that stabbed someone to death?

I did a double take after reading this report on Thenet.ng. According to the investigative news portal, singer Burna Boy was part of a gang that stabbed someone to death in the UK in 2010. See it below...
Burn Boy’s ‘uncontrollable’ mannerism and persona didn’t just start yesterday; NET investigations and sources have linked him to a criminal past, a period of his life he would rather not make public knowledge.
We are told on good authority that while in the UK back in 2010, Burna Boy was arrested by London Police for allegedly being part of a gang and stabbing someone to death. He was tried as a minor and sent to jail.
After 11 months, he was released and given two months parole plus community service on the grounds of being of ‘good behaviour’. But Burna is said to have disobeyed authorities and travelled back to Nigeria where he signed a record deal with Aristokrat.
He later travelled back to the UK but was arrested at the airport and deported to Nigeria. He is currently barred from the UK for the next 15 years.
